2019 Coke Games: Alisi thanks mum for motivation
ALISI Vakatale of Xavier College was emotional after winning the senior girls shot put after all the sacrifices she went through preparing for the Fiji Finals 2019.
The 18-year-old Lomaiviti lass said she had given up on training but thanks to her mother Amalaini Vakatale, who continued to push her through and to win the gold medal made her emotional because her mother was an impact to her success.
“To my mum if you’re reading this article, thank you, I don’t know how to put this in words or tell you how I feel right now but I just want to tell you vinaka for everything because I’ve given up so many times during my training sessions but you kept on inspiring me and motivating me,” said Vakatale.
“Training was tough because I had to cut down on some of my favourite dish and at the same time concentrate on studies but little did I know it’s all for this moment.”
Vakatale threw a distance of 11.97 metres to claim the gold medal and at the same time bag another gold for Xavier College increasing the girls medal to four gold.
“I would also like to thank my coaches and the school for their support,” Vakatale said.
Vakatale won gold last year in the intermediate girls shot put and again this year in the senior division.
